Entertainment in Carmel-by-the-Sea

The theater and arts community play a vital role in the lifeblood of Carmel, for both its residents and visitors. To that end, the Golden Bough Playhouse features two distinct theaters — the 300-seat proscenium-style Golden Bough Theater and the 120-seat Circle Theater. Take in musicals and contemporary performances at the Golden Bough, or for an intimate experience, enjoy experimental works and other performances that benefit from a smaller setting in the Circle Theater.

World-class concerts from big name entertainers provide the focal point at the Golden State Theatre, where lectures, musicals and films also offer amusement. And for a mixture of entertainment and history, Carmel’s Forest Theater, founded in 1910, is one of the oldest outdoor theaters west of the Rocky Mountains. Here you can experience live outdoor plays, as well as special presentations like Films in the Forest.

Wine connoisseurs can delight in the many Carmel Valley wine tasting rooms, where expert winemakers make the perfect hosts, offering a personalized experience at nearly every turn. Stroll from one wine tasting room to the next, sipping signature Merlots and Cabernet Sauvignons, or seek out one of the Carmel Valley wine tours for a more intimate experience.

Carmel is home to numerous festivals and events throughout the year, including food and wine, antique cars, and art and sculpture. For a taste of holiday magic, check out The Annual Inns of Distinction Tour which takes place each December, where visitors stroll historic inns and enjoy the décor that adds to the excitement of the holidays.

The annual Fourth of July celebration is a sight to behold, while the Carmel Bach Festival, held each July, is a world-class celebration of that genius composer. Spread over 15 days, ‘America’s most important Bach Festival’ has delighted the ears of music lovers for more than 80 seasons.

And each February, a who’s who of professional golfers, celebrities and entertainers gather at the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Founded in the late 1930s by Bing Crosby, the pro-am is the ideal way to see up close celebrities from across the spectrum.
