Arts and Culture in Aspen

Recognized around the world as a haven for the arts, Aspen prides itself on nurturing the mind, body, and spirit. They call it “The Aspen Idea.” Springing forth from this idea, local and international artists reside in Aspen and help create a robust performing arts, event and lecture, and fine-art scene.

Innovative organizations like the Aspen Institute and Aspen Art Museum call this place home, while the arts and culture scene is comprised of a myriad of disciplines including art museums and centers, music venues and festivals, and the screen and stage.

Drawing talented musical performers from all over the world, Aspen’s tastes range from classical to contemporary jazz, alternative, and everything in between. Belly Up Aspen plays host to over 300 live concerts each year. This intimate venue has seen an eclectic mix of artists like B.B. King, Jack White, and Adam Sandler.

For over 25 years, the not-for-profit Jazz Aspen Snowmass (JAS) has made its mission to preserve, promote and present jazz music in all of its forms. Enjoy world-class performances at the JAS Cafe, where an evening of captivating music is complemented by candlelight, dinner and drinks. And for a truly memorable time, visit during the Labor Day Experience, a three-day outdoor event that features an iconic lineup of entertainers and musical acts.

Debuting a major film event with each season, Aspen Film is internationally recognized for outstanding contributions to film arts. At Theatre Aspen, the summer season comes alive with awe-inspiring performances by Broadway artists in a variety of plays, musicals and comedies that take place at the Hurst Theatre in a stunning Rio Grande Park setting.

And don’t forget to visit the Wheeler Opera House, a mix of state-of-the-art venue and historic landmark.

Browse one of the many art museums and centers throughout the region, like the Anderson Ranch Arts Center and Red Brick Center for the Arts, where a variety of resident art studios combine with lectures and community rooms to promote art education to the public.

Then stroll the downtown area and pedestrian malls, where quaint, boutique art galleries spring up all around, like the Aspen Art Gallery, Baldwin Gallery and RavenHeart Gallery.
