Our History

From the opening of the first Hyatt Hotel in 1957 through the introduction of Hyatt Vacation Club in 1994 and beyond, Hyatt has become the hospitality brand of choice for vacationers seeking dramatic luxury experiences in the world's most beloved locations.

1957: Hyatt House - The Beginning
Hyatt Corporation opens its first hotel on September 27, 1957. Hyatt House is a small motor lodge near the Los Angeles International Airport owned by a local entrepreneur by the name of Hyatt R. von Dehn.

1994: Hyatt Introduces Hyatt Vacation Club

Hyatt enters the vacation ownership industry in 1994. The following year, Hyatt Vacation Club opens its first resort, Hyatt Sunset Harbor, in Key West, Florida.

1996-2008: Hyatt Vacation Club Grows Collection of Resorts

As demand for unique vacation offerings soard, the next 12 years witness the opening of 13 additional Hyatt Vacation Club resorts.

2009: Hyatt Introduces Hyatt Residence Club

Hyatt Vacation Club is reintroduced as Hyatt Residence Club in 2009. Combining the long-term value of home-ownership, elegantly appointed residences and Hyatt's signature hospitality, this new name better aligns to our unique vacation ownership experiences.

2010: Hyatt Residence Club Opens Hyatt Siesta Key Beach

The opening of Hyatt Siesta Key Beach epitomizes the Hyatt Residence Club vision of offering carefree vacation ownership in highly desirable destinations. With a continued focus on natural beauty, Hyatt Siesta Key Beach sets the gold standard for privileged beachfront vacationing.

2014: Hyatt Residence Club Acquired by Interval Leisure Group

On October 1, 2014, Interval Leisure Group acquires Hyatt Residential Group and its affiliates including Hyatt Residence Club. All Hyatt Residence Club members continue to receive all privileges associated with their membership, including Hyatt Gold Passport benefits.

2014: Hyatt Residence Club Debuts First Property in Hawaii

The luxurious Hyatt Ka'anapali Beach opens on December 17, 2014. Located on one of Maui's most sought-after beaches, the 131-unit property joins 15 other upscale shared ownership properties in the Hyatt Residence Club portoflio of resorts.

Hyatt Ka'anapali Beach, a Hyatt Residence Club Resort, receives the American Resort Development Association's prestigious 2015 ARDA Circle of Excellence (ACE) Domestic Project of Excellence award.
